Began my training to be a General Surgeon with extensive experience in MACROvascular surgery, but too grueling so altered course to become a “True” Plastic Surgeon. Have spent entire professional lifespan in private practice, independent of all hospitals and any university.
Now over 40 years that seemed like just yesterday took care mostly of victims of burns, trauma, and hand surgery.
Microsurgery became a passion essential to allow transfer of musculocutaneous, fasciocutaneous, and now perforator flaps.
Spent 20 years as part of the International Perforator Flap Course, teaching this concept around the world as it evolved to be an important part of plastic surgery. This experience has been well outlined in my three textbooks especially emphasizing lower extremity reconstruction—first “Fasciocutaneous Flaps,” then now what has become the third edition of “Perforator Flaps,” and “Lower Extremity Reconstruction” with JP Hong.
The latter has been our enduring passion to help the world understand and so better treat all our patients, as is our intent in this our trip to Cambodia.
